Writing this story may take longer than the actual journey to get here! :-)
Completing basic precut projects, I learned to carve, sew and lace leather in a junior high school shop class. Years later the unproductive search for a replacement sheath for a Gerber bolt action led me to Tandy leather. Like everything else, their kit would not fit this new style folding knife. I left with a piece of leather from the scrap bin, needle, thread, snaps, setter, and advice. That "custom" sheath not only served for years, but restarted me into leather working over thirty years ago.
